Some paintings come out of big ideas. This one came out of the daily practice — the quiet, hopeful act of showing up to the studio and seeing what happens. I sanded and scraped back the underlayers until the surface was smooth, then let simple white paint and dynamic color emerge on top. What's left is something distilled: a small painting that carries a lot of feeling in a modest space.
A Prayer is one of a pair, made alongside A Wish. Both represent those moments in the studio when something unexpected and good appears — bits of joy found in the ordinary work of painting.
