The osprey nests of Nantucket are extraordinary things — enormous, elaborate, built up over years on top of whatever high point the birds can find. I've been watching them for a long time. And then there's Big Bird, whose nest on Sesame Street I've been thinking about since childhood: that same quality of something large and warm and carefully made, a home that announces itself.

Both were in my mind when I made this print. I worked with master printer Lyell Castonguay of Big Ink Prints to realize it at this scale — 60 × 40 inches on Japanese Masa paper, printed as a limited edition of three. This is one of the three. The woodcut process gives it a physicality and texture that you can feel in the surface of the print.
