The title isn't about France. Bordeaux is a small mountainous area on the Caribbean island of St. John — a place I spent a great deal of time during my formative years. It shaped me in ways I'm still discovering.

When the devastating hurricanes hit the island a few years ago, I found myself thinking about it constantly. The beauty of that place — the emerald of the hills, the particular quality of the light, the way the landscape felt both lush and precarious — came flooding back. This painting is my response to that. An attempt to hold onto something that felt suddenly fragile.

The greens here are luminous, almost exuberant. The brushwork is loose and alive. I wanted the painting to feel the way the island felt to me — abundant, vivid, irreplaceable.
