I made this series after trips to Madrid and Barcelona — cities that got under my skin in a particular way. The light in Spain is different from anywhere else I've worked: intense, directional, full of contrast. The days are vivid and the nights are long and full of color. I wanted to find a printmaking process that could hold that quality, and intaglio monoprinting turned out to be exactly right.

Each print in the Days and Nights in Spain series is made from a unique combination of intaglio plates and colors — no two are alike. This is number XIV in the series. It arrives ready to hang, framed in white.
