I've long been drawn to the economy and stillness of Japanese watercolors — the way they hold so much in so little, the way negative space does as much work as the mark itself. This series is my attempt to find something of that quality in the intaglio process.

What makes these prints particularly special is the chin-collé: pages from antique art books, collaged into the surface of the print before it's run through the press. The paper becomes part of the image — fragments of art history embedded in the work, visible but transformed. Each print in the series is a unique combination of intaglio plates, colors, and collaged pages. No two are alike. This is number II in the series, framed in pickled ash and ready to hang.
