A squall arrives without much warning — a sudden darkening, the wind shifting, the sea changing character in minutes. I've watched them come in off the water on Nantucket many times, and there's something thrilling about that speed, that indifference. The deep greens and blues in this panel carry that feeling: weather moving through, light caught in the middle of changing.

This is the third in a series of four small panels rooted in Nantucket's midsummer landscape and in my long engagement with Turner — specifically his Snow Storm: Hannibal and his Army Crossing the Alps, a painting that understands weather as something that overwhelms and transforms everything in its path.
